I was listening to the iconic “Piano Man” for the thousandth time, when a lyric hit me in the gut like a Mike Tyson.uppercut.

“It’s a pretty good crowd for a Saturday
And the manager gives me a smile
‘Cause he knows that it’s me they’ve been coming to see
To forget about life for a while”
How horribly sad and even tragic: “To forget about life for awhile”
All we have is life, why are looking for ways to forget about it?
I also have looked for and found ways to temporarily escape my reality, as I know you have.
Nonetheless, there is a part of me that wonders if we all relate to this Billy Joel lyric, are we are getting “life” wrong?  Or is Buddha’s first Noble Truth – “Life is Suffering” – a universal truth?
