We are often rude without knowing it.  Here is a list for your consideration  I will leave the rational behind each up to you.

—————-

– If you compliment someone on their shirt, watch, perfume, etc.  Do not ask “Where did you get that?” or worse “How much did it cost?”

– If a person has a unique, funny, or odd name, do not comment on it.

– When you meet someone that is/were in the military. Do not respond with “Oh, my uncle (father/grandfather/friend) was/in in the Navy/Marine/Coast Guard”

– If you work in retail, food-service, or customer service, always greet your customer, nicely and first  (“Hi” works). (I once had staredown with a barista at Starbucks.  I refused to say the first word, and she felt similarly. )

– Being the “customer” does not entitle you to be rude or nasty.   The person that you interacting with is a human being not a robotic piece of the corporate monsters you may despise.

– If you are the recipient of any form of kind gesture from another driver, you wave.  You wave, every single time.

– If your transaction/service is taking longer than average. Look behind you.  The line is wishing death upon you and your kin.  Offer to let them go through.

– If you encounter law enforcement, you address them as “Sir” or “Ma’am” . . . every single time.

– If you are at a restaurant with a group of four or more, recognize the possibility that your conversation may naturally escalate to a volume that could make it difficult for nearby couples to communicate and enjoy their night out.

– If you are trying to make a left turn across four lanes with a line forming behind you, make a right turn instead.
